Yesterday someone mentioned the poem, The Dash. I had never heard of it and was curious. She told me that it is about the time between your birth date and your expiration date. As we discussed the poem, we had a conversation about how to live life, and how we want to be remembered. I told her that I would love to see the poem and she said she would bring it to show me next time we meet.

Shortly after that I went to look at the mail.  On the pile I noticed an envelope from a dear friend. It was a card with a piece of paper folded inside.

Yes, you guessed it. It was the poem!

I was amazed! These types of events fascinate me, and make me wonder if there really is some mysterious force in the universe, like the one that I choose to believe in. Have you ever had an experience of synchronicity? How have you interpreted it? My interpretation of this one goes like this–Live life to the fullest!

Living life to the fullest at this moment means looking forward to a visit coming up from my beloved friend, finishing my book, maybe starting to do some psychic readings, and making some changes in the way I practice psychotherapy. I will be virtually closing my practice in Massachusetts in a few months– “virtually” because I may continue to see a few people on occasion, and I will continue on some basis to help my dear friends/colleagues in the office.

I plan to continue practicing in Maine and writing more. I want to garden more, play with my grandchildren more, see friends more, and hopefully do some psychic readings.  As we move along the dash, making conscious decisions about what to do with life can make us feel more in charge of our lives, and more alive.

Of course there are “must-do’s” for all of us that do not feel much like choices, but choosing to do what I must do can also be done with mindfulness. Knowing I have choices is an exquisite luxury that I am fortunate to have.

But Sychronicity….Now that is another matter! Do you believe?
