Bette and her husband, Ray Amidon, LCPC, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, offer conjoint therapy to couples. In these sessions the individuals have the unique benefit of working with two seasoned professionals who provide a richly textured therapeutic experience. Having two therapists in the session enables an environment in which both parties of the couple can feel supported and safe to speak what is on their minds.
In this setting the couple can observe the two therapists using techniques of communication and interaction that demonstrate respect and appreciation for personal strengths and personal boundaries.
This unique and effective couple’s work allows the development of safer connections in the relationship, and a deeper working through of the presenting issues. In some circumstances, depending on clinical rationale, the couple’s therapy may include individual sessions with one of the two therapists for a limited time or as an ongoing adjunct to the couple’s work together.
