Time Travel to Wisdom
Can you imagine traveling in time and returning to the present with the gift of a new perspective? Going back to your past might help you realize a solution to a current problem; going forward might give you guidance from a wise great grandparent you knew or wish you had known, or an imaginary inner elder in some far off future.
Imagine that you met yourself as a wise older person; how would you want this individual to comfort you, to reassure you, to inspire you? You can imagine what he, she or they would say, allowing the wisdom to come into your mind in your own intuitive voice.
My own wise “crone” is fashioned from the wisdom of Kathy, an older mother who befriended me during a difficult time many years ago after my first marriage ended. Determined to transform me from victim to valiant survivor, Kathy moved in with me for a month.
Each night after putting the children to bed, Kathy “tutored” me in the ways of becoming resilient as a single mother and as a woman. With humor and compassion, she shared her wisdom with me. I wrote about “Kathy’s Lessons” in Soul Mothers’ Wisdom: Seven Insights for the Single Mother. The essence of Kathy’s wisdom was this:
“Be grateful for all your experiences. Your strengths and abilities do not depend on anyone else. You can cope and you will grow more than you ever believed possible.”
I wasn’t sure I believed her then, but each time I think about all I have faced through many years of growing stronger, Kathy’s lessons have been affirmed and have given me faith in my Self.
With a little curiosity, the power of your intuition and the creativity of your imagination you time travel, bringing back ideas from the past and inspiration for the future. Traveling to wisdom can give you faith in yourself now and hope for succeeding at any age of your life.
